Invisalign® for Teens

imageDoes your child need braces? Try Invisalign, a quicker and more comfortable alternative to traditional metal braces. The Invisalign process is faster than traditional braces but just as effective. Using a series of clear aligners, Invisalign gradually straightens teeth for a more balanced smile. The team at Fit Bite Orthodontics will work with you and your child during each step of the Invisalign treatment to ensure it goes smoothly.

Common dental issues that Invisalign can treat include:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Overcrowding
  • Crooked teeth

What are the Benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign not only straightens teeth for a more balanced smile but also improves oral health. Crooked, overcrowded teeth can be difficult to clean and plaque can build up between teeth. Straight teeth are easier to clean and fight against gum disease and tooth decay. Invisalign braces are crafted from hard-soft plastic material which are clear and blend in with teeth. The clear aligners can also be removed for eating without any restrictions. You can brush and floss regularly when removing the aligners. Traditional braces can take an average of 2 years to complete treatment. With Invisalign, many patients can finish treatment in 12 months.

Invisalign for Teens

Invisalign utilizes a set of clear aligners which are worn in 2 week increments for 20 to 22 hours a day. Treatment can last from 9 to 15 months. The aligners are custom-fit and are crafted from molds taken from teeth.

Invisalign for teens differs from regular Invisalign treatment in several ways. Each tray has a blue compliance indicator, a small dot on the back of the tray which slowly fades as the trays are worn. Invisalign also leaves room for incoming teeth if your child still doesn’t have all of their adult teeth yet. In addition, if your child is unsatisfied with treatment within the first six months, you can switch to braces at no additional cost.

Invisalign FAQs

Learn the answers to frequently asked questions about Invisalign below:

Is there an age limit for Invisalign?
There is no minimum age limit for Invisalign treatment. However, because many teens have most or all of their adult teeth in place, they can easily begin Invisalign treatment.

Is my child a good candidate for Invisalign?
Before treatment, Dr. Linda Hallman will determine if your child is a good candidate for Invisalign by examining their teeth, gums, and bite. She will also take any other dental problems into account. Existing dental issues must be treated first before Invisalign treatment can be considered.

What happens after Invisalign?
After the Invisalign treatment is complete, your child should wear a retainer to ensure that teeth remain straight and protected from wear and tear. The retainer should be cleaned with soapy water and a toothbrush. You should also schedule regular dental checkups after treatment.
